So I have a new blog. WAIT! That doesn't mean that I'm abandoning this one, oh no. And I ain't just saying that either, because I know that I said I'd keep updating DeadJournal (wow, memory rush) when I got my shiny new LJ four years ago or whatever, and I basically did no such thing. My new blog, located on the slick and sexy Blogger/Blogspot system, is my "business" blog -- I'll write and report on stuff in the news relating to anthropology, religion, and other stuff I find interesting. Like this LJ, it's called Saint John the Conqueror, and you can find it at http://sjtc.blogspot.com. SJTC @ LiveJournal (because I couldn't figure out to change my LJ name to something else) will continue to be frequented by me and updated with personal stuff. Yup.

SO how was Sophomore year?

Alright, I guess.

Better than frosh year? Yeah and no.

Lots of good things happened. Some didn't happen. Classes were good.

Best classes: Human Evolution, Cultural Symbols, History of Western Art

Worst classes: World Cultures: Caribbean (What a JOKE), Medical Anthropology (just not up my alley)

Met some people who were cool, and many more who I thought were cool, but turned out to be notsomuch, and I wasted way too much of my time on them.

Next year, like always, will be different. I've revised my game plan.

I hope I live in a good place.

The good thing is, this summer many people are staying in the city so I can visit them.

Summer is very quiet. Very very quiet. While being home is good sometimes (never hungry, fresh air) it's very very very bad other times (nobody around, miss the city).

Dig? Talk to me.

Even if we haven't talked in a while, talk to me.

Back in the Bay State. It's green and lush outside. Smells good.

June: Working

July: Prague

August: Hopefully more working

September: Living who knows where

BTW: Stated and finished Altered States today. Might be my favorite novel of all time. It's got everything: Sex, anthropology, drugs, Buddhist and Christian symbolism, violence and australopithecines.

My small nephew had just told me solemnly that he had seen God out walking...

I went and reasoned with him...The gist of my extemporized remarks came from the medieval seer. "Not up, or down," I cautioned...

"Nor walking in the sun, nor in the night - above all - not that."

"Then where did God get all that dirt?"

I, in my turn, grew quiet and considered.

"Out of a dark closet called Night," I parried. "We, too, come from there."

- Loren Eiseley, "The Night Country."

The Primate mind ascendant.

Note to self:

Never ever get excited about anything in the future, ever.

Never place any hope on anything/anyone, or count on any other human being to come through for you.

Never react to anything.

you will invariably, invariably, invariably be disappointed.

I will probably repeal this entire sentiment in a matter of hours.

PS- when someone I respect/love/trust is unkind to me, it cuts me so deep that I don't know what to do.
